Pelican Street

Pelican Street transformed a former printing house into a working environment for music and creativity, bringing recording spaces and offices together under one roof.

The starting point was deliberately simple: a recording studio should not have to feel like a recording studio.

Rather than creating a purely technical environment, the space was conceived with the familiarity of a home — somewhere artists and collaborators could arrive, settle in, spend time and create without feeling surrounded by the machinery of production.

This thinking extended into the functional architecture of the studio itself. Acoustic panels, the control desk and a raised drum podium were designed specifically for the space, allowing its technical requirements to become part of the same visual language rather than elements added afterwards.

Furniture, art, objects, instruments and materials further softened the boundary between recording studio, workplace and domestic environment.

The result was a recording studio and workplace shaped as much around the people inhabiting it as the work being produced inside — technical in function, but deliberately human in character.
