Studio Moineau brought drawing and writing together under the idea Les Images et les Mots, combining Chinese ink, French poetry, fashion and portraiture across two Paris exhibitions and the limited-edition books Modi and Feathers.
Studio Moineau was founded around two creative impulses: to draw and to write.
Under the phrase Les Images et les Mots, the project explored what could happen when neither was asked to exist without the other. Drawings in Chinese ink were accompanied by fragments of French poetry, allowing image and language to inhabit the same world.
Presented through two exhibitions in Paris, the work drew from fashion and portraiture, with the elongated figures of Amedeo Modigliani forming one recurring point of reference.
Two limited-edition books, Modi and Feathers, extended the exhibitions into objects of their own.
Modi brought together ink portraits inspired by Modigliani, bound within a tactile leather-like cover. Feathers turned towards fashion: models, garments and objects marked by the recurring presence of feathers, presented within a soft, almost velvet-black cover.
Inside, drawings appeared alongside original French texts and poems — returning each book to the founding idea of Studio Moineau: images and words, neither simply illustrating the other.
The drawings and editions were made available during the exhibitions, allowing fragments of the project to leave the gallery and enter private collections.
